Who’s ready to run? The Storyteller Agency is sponsoring the Seaside School Half Marathon & 5K for the second year, and we’re doing things a little bit different this time around. Last year we set up a water table – and not just any water table. Not only did we keep the runners hydrated, but we also kept them inspired with the perfect music playlist (if the Rocky theme song doesn’t get you going, nothing will) and funny signs (‘It may be cold, but you look HOT!’) that kept the runners laughing as they passed by. The Storyteller team won’t be setting up a water table this year, but only because (drum roll, please) we are running the race ourselves! And you know what? We need a little inspiration to get geared up for the race. So, in the spirit of last year’s water table, we’re hoping today’s blog post will inspire someone (ourselves included) to train harder or to take a leap of faith and join us in the race!
3 things that happen when you cross the finish line
You prove to yourself that you can do it
I’m not going to lie – we have really been doubting our running abilities here at The Storyteller Agency, but you know what? We are going to prove to ourselves that we can do it, and so can you! Cue the Rocky theme song.
You accomplish a personal goal
The only goal that you have to set for yourself is to simply cross the finish line – however you may choose to do it. There is no rule that says you have to run the entire duration of the race. And don’t worry about being the last to cross the finish line – it could very easily be one of us.
You feel great about yourself
There is a lot to be said for the way that exercise makes us feel about ourselves, and when you cross the finish line of any race, you will experience an overwhelming wave of positive emotions. In that moment, you will feel like you can conquer the world – or maybe just your next race. Your story doesn’t stop at the finish line.
You celebrate how awesome you are
What’s the first thing that you want to do when you cross the finish line? Celebrate! There will be a post-race party for all runners including live music, a free meal (and beer for those with proper identification), and free gifts! Sounds like serious inspiration to us!
Laughter is the best…inspiration?
We realized last year at our water table just how inspiring laughter can be. We would see runners approaching our table with a look of defeat on their face – ready to give up – and as soon as we would flash one of our clever signs their way, that look of defeat would quickly disappear and turn to laughter. Sometimes all you need is a spirit lift along the way to help you reach the finish line.
Apparently, we aren’t the only ones who appreciate good humor as inspiration during a race – check out these clever race day signs. Let’s hope most runners have a good sense of humor!
10 songs to add to your race-day playlist
Running without music? Why would anyone do that? We had way too much fun picking out songs to keep last year’s runners inspired during the race, so we’ve got some song suggestions for your race-day playlist. There is a song for every music lover on our list -
1. Eye of the Tiger by Survivor
2. In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins
3. Good Vibrations by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
4. Yeah (Featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris) by Usher
5. Farewell Ride by Beck
6. Shake it Out by Florence + The Machine
7. Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars
8. Riptide by Vance Joy
9. Animals by Maroon 5
10. Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti (We couldn’t leave this one out)
