Tis the season to be merry and bright, folks! The holiday season is upon us, and one thing that there is absolutely no shortage of this time of year? Parties. Am I right? And amongst the list of holiday parties to anticipate, one of our favorites – the office Christmas party. Come December, most everyone in the office is due for a chance to relax and let loose with their fellow coworkers. (Even the ones with whom you exchange passive aggressive eye rolls at the water station) One thing about office Christmas parties is that they can become a bit lackluster after the same traditional party year after year. Why not mix things up this year and plan something out of the ordinary? Celebrate outside the box this holiday season with some of these unique ideas.
Celebrate for a Cause
Why not invite the spirit of giving to the office Christmas party this year? Forego the usual small talk and spiked punch in a hotel banquet room and choose instead to gather everyone together for a good cause! There are countless ways for you all to give back to the community during the holiday season.
Habitat for Humanity
This organization is always appreciative of a few extra helping hands. Check with your local branch to discover projects that are underway and put you and your coworkers on the list of handy helpers. Joining together in the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate is sure to leave everyone full of Christmas spirit.
Volunteer at a Local Charity
Have everyone in the office vote on the local charity of their choice and then plan a day for everyone to come out and volunteer together at the organization that receives the most votes. If you have a larger group than most, you can even split up into groups in order to spread the love to multiple non-profit organizations.
Sponsor a Local Family in Need
There are usually multiple organizations in place that allow people to sponsor a local family that is not able to afford not only to give each other gifts for Christmas, but more importantly, to feed their family during the holidays. Research and find a way to sponsor a family in need and have everyone in the office pitch in on gifts and toys as well as food items or gift certificates to allow them to enjoy a good family meal during the holidays.
Host an Office Decorating Party
There is always that one person that gets stuck with putting up all of the office holiday decorations each year, and when you are doing it alone it doesn’t exactly fill you with the Christmas spirit. So, why not make a party out of it? Have everyone bring a holiday food and spirit of their choice (or order in), crank up the holiday tunes, and get to decorating! I’m getting into the Christmas spirit just thinking about it!
Tacky Sweater Contest, Anyone?
Everyone loves a Tacky Holiday Sweater contest, right? Those sweaters are all the rage these days and easier to find than ever – Amazon is overflowing with those things! Designate a day at the office for everyone to wear their tackiest holiday attire and give everyone some good incentive to win the top award. When you combine the powers of the competitive spirit and the Christmas spirit, you get a really fun day at the office!
Map Out a Holiday Treasure Hunt
Rather than everyone spending their evening standing around in uncomfortable shoes, eating too much spinach dip, why not coordinate a treasure hunt, divide up into teams and paint the town! Each clue or step will lead you to a fun local spot, where you will receive the next clue, and so on – with all of the clues eventually leading everyone to a final destination where, not only the treasure awaits for the winners, but also a fun remainder of the evening with all of your co-workers. What’s the treasure? Well, that’s up to the boss man (or lady) and whatever they think will ignite the fierce competitor in everyone. Let the games begin!
