How to “Work from Home” from Anywhere
Working from home takes a high level of independence and tenacity, but the rewards from the WFH lifestyle are endless! For most of us, we can make our own schedules, wear comfortable clothing, and eat/clean at our leisure. However, one of the best WFH perks is the fact that you can work from home from anywhere! What does that mean, and what does that look like? Read on to find out.
You Are Your Office
When it comes to working from home, the “home” part of the equation is a pretty flexible word. For most of us, so long as we have a stable internet connection, our computer, and the necessary extras, we can do the job almost anywhere. When you work from home, you become your office. Your mind and your talents are the driving forces of the job, which means working from anywhere in the world is an absolute possibility. Before you make the commitment to leave the house, especially during the pandemic, you want to ensure you have everything you need at your new location. It’s a good idea to make a checklist of everything you absolutely need before deciding to move the home office. Here are a few must haves:-A stable internet connection-Headset/headphones (if audio is involved)-Workspace—desk, comfy chair, quiet background (if needed)-Must-have items: any paperwork, books, pens/pencils/markers, etc.-Food/drink Once you know everything you need to be successful as a WFH warrior, it’s time to take your work on the road! Local Options
Maybe you don’t feel comfortable straying too far from the home office. If that’s the case, no problem! Not wanting to venture too far doesn’t mean you have to forfeit a change in scenery. Sitting outside is a great way to shake up your day-to-day home office and allows you to enjoy the warmer months and great weather. You can also stay close to home by traveling to a local coffee shop, work bar, or library. Pack up your gear and enjoy a great cup of coffee while you complete your daily tasks! Most of the local coffee shops in my area have WFH warriors working from opening until about lunch time. Around lunch when things get busy, we order some food then head home to allow for table turnover.
The World is Your Office
For the more adventurous worker, working from home can literally mean driving to a cabin, flying across the country, or renting a home in an international space. The possibilities are truly endless, so long aswe can accommodate our checklists. While the pandemic is causing significant problems, the WFH lifestyle is becoming a trend. Many of us were, and are, able to pick up and physically move to another location to enjoy things like warmer weather, family and friends, and new locations. If you have the means, be sure to take precautions and follow all state and country guidelines before, during, and after your trip. Limit your pandemic travel and be sure to wear a mask! Outside of COVID times, there are a lot of shared homes and workspaces across the globe. If you’re someone who works from home and doesn’t need to check into a brick-and-mortar building, international travel is a real possibility! When we work from home, we have a lot of flexibility, especially now as most of us are hunkering down during these uncertain times. If you’re able to do so safely, change the WFH scenery and check out your town, your country, and beyond! If you’re working at a local café, be sure to tip your servers for the table, and be mindful of their busy hours. If you’re traveling during the pandemic, be sure to follow all guidelines and wear a mask. And if you plan to stay in your own backyard, don’t forget to stop and smell the roses. When we work from home, the possibilities are truly endless. Don’t be afraid to shake it up!
